Barbara Solomon's weekly interviews in the New York Times Sunday Magazine are so snarky and mean and distorted that the "public editor" shamed her into disclosing each week that her interviews are all "condensed" and "edited." But this week's is a love-letter. Why? Natch -- the subject is diminutive liberal icon Robert Reich. No snarkiness from Solomon. In fact, she helps Reich be snarky.

What are the disadvantages of shortness? I was bullied a lot when I was a kid. I was actually beat up because I was little. People frequently tell me in interviews that they were bullied as children. But no one ever steps forward and says, ?I was the bully.? They don?t want to admit to being a bully.

What do you think playground bullies grow up to be? Right-wing Republicans.

Can you imagine a Republican -- supposedly a bully -- of equal eminence as Reich ever saying anything like this for publication? Can you imagine the Times running it if one ever did?
