A Painful Memo From Yahoo

Yahoo announced last week that it would be making a 10 percent cut to its workforce in order to trim down some $400 million of it's operating cost. This must have been a painful thing to hear for those 1400 employees finding out they were toast.

Except that they haven't found out. They know it's happening, but they don't know who exactly has been axed.

Alleyinsider.com posted the termination memo on their website last week and in it, Jerry Yang tells employees that those affected by the layoffs will be "notified of layoffs in the next several weeks." That'll stir up some productivity!

The memo served the dual purpose of informing the affected (canned) employees that Christmas isn't coming this year while also assuring the other 90% (who are scrambling to update their resumes) that Yahoo is strong and only doing what is necessary to weather the economic storm.

"These changes will also prepare us to better deal with the macroeconomic downturn."

Of course, no mention of returning jobs once the storm has passed.

"As the global economy improves in the future, I certainly believe that we will be stronger and benefit from the actions we are taking now."
