What All-star Stocks Have In Common

Posted on 10/14/2007 22:19:59 | Link | Post Comment

Investor’s Business Daily has spent years studying the all-star stocks, looking for the common denominators that propelled them to greatness. No matter the decade, the research has led to the same conclusions. The characteristics of big stock market winners before they stage big price runs are remarkably similar. These winners are basically a combination of superb financial performance (underscored by superior sales and earnings growth) and strong demand for the stock.

Also, they've all had a knock-out product or service that changed the way we live, work or play.
The characteristics of the big stock market winners include:

* Quarterly and annual earnings growth rates of 25% or higher.
* Quarterly sales growth of at least 25%.
* A return on equity of 17% or higher.
* Stocks trading at or near new price highs prior to their major advances.
* Stocks moving up on higher volume, often an indication that big institutional investors are buying.
* A new product, service or industry condition that sparks new growth.
* And lastly, the major advances tended to occur while the stock market was healthy and moving higher.
