U.S. stock futures back on the upswing as Oracle tops

"U.S. stock futures were back on the move higher on Friday after a one-day pause, with upbeat results from Oracle and Nike helping to set a positive tone."

Gold for December delivery closed up $10.40 at $739.90 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It touched a high of $746.30, a level a lead-month contract on the exchange hasn't reached in at least 27 years. In electronic trading, gold reached a high of $746.50.

There was some considerable backpedaling in influential areas where things have recently seen improvement. On Thursday, the Retail ($RLX -2.03%), Bank ($BKX -1.90%), and Broker/Dealer ($XBD -1.88%) indexes weighed heavily on the major averages. The Healthcare ($HMO -1.22%) group also slumped. The tech sector saw modest losses in the Biotechnology ($BTK -0.51%) and Internet ($DOT -0.30%) indexes, and only slight gains for the Networking ($NWX +0.08%) and Semiconductor ($SOX +0.14%) indexes. Commodity linked areas rose, with the Oil Services Index ($OSX +1.42%) outpacing the Integrated Oil Index ($XOI +0.42%).

The Nasdaq Composite pulled back on lighter volume to consolidate its recent gains that came on heavier volume.
