May 14th Blogger Sentiment Poll

Posted on 05/14/2007 12:42:21 | Link | Post Comment

FROM TICKER SENSE:This week's bloggers are more bearish than bullish, coming off of a flat week. Last week, the TickerSense blogger sentiment poll captured this quite well, with over 40% bears and 25% neutral. It seems unusual for bearishness to be rising with the market.
According to Jeff Mathews one reason is that the bullish forecasters are seeing the market approach their original expectations for the year. Revisions to forecasts are modest. Abby Joseph Cohen is going to 1600 on the S&P for 2007. That puts her on the bullish extreme, but it is only about 6%. Ed Keon, whom we have cited in the past for his excellent analysis of market factors, remains the biggest bull with his forecast going to 1650.

I voted bearish again, but my stock account is fully invested in an array of tech, medical, biotech, mining, and energy. I am also short (15%) QQQQ, SPY & RSP and long SDS. I recently sold A and some YHOO, EXAS and added GPXM, DNDN.
Portable Alpha Daily's Long-Term Market Model – Bullish since April 27th. Asset Allocation – AAS Model Portfolios have 75% cash allocations and 25% longs, finding Alpha in Energy, Utilities and Materials.

According to Dr. Brett, Options-based sentiment is relatively bullish. Friday's equity put/call ratio was below the five day average; the five-day average was below the 20-day average; and the 20-day average was below the 200-day average. This indicates a solid trend toward bullish sentiment.
