California Construction Permits Still Lagging
Posted on 06/29/2007 19:00:33 | Link | Post Comment
Here's an update to yesterday's item on new building permit data showing that apartment and condo construction has overtaken single-family homes in The O.C.
The California Building Industry Association released May building permit figures for the entire state showing that residential construction is lagging statewide, as in Orange County. Total construction permits are down nearly 29 percent so far this year vs. a year ago. The decline is steeper, however, for single-family homes than it is for multi-family (apartments and condos).

"To a great extent, we can thank steady media coverage of the real estate market 'correction' for unfounded consumer concerns."
Phoenix May 2007 Home Sales from DQNews
Phoenix area home sales sank to an eight-year low in May, marking the 18th consecutive month in which sales have fallen on a year-over-year basis. The trend has taken a toll on the region's median sale price, which has fallen below year-ago levels for four straight months.
