A Word About Money Management

Posted on 10/18/2006 00:19 AM | Link | Post Comment
Sometimes I run across an explanation of things that just make good common sense. Recently, there was an article in Barron's where Ms. Sandra Ward had interviewed Mr. Rudold-Riad Younes. Mr Younes is the co-manager of bank Julius Baer's International Equity Fund. When reading his view of global markets and his concern over the U.S. twin deficits (budget and trade), I found his explanation of money management to be genius. He said:

"at the end of the day, money management is a combination of dogmatism and pragmatism; while we wait for our thesis to be proved, we are also trying to protect our investors and trying to find places where we can make money..."

What a great line, and so true. My objective is to be dogmatic in applying my theories to an investment in real estate, commodities or equities, but I must be pragmatic in knowing that oftentimes I can target the right trade, yet be too early. Because I want to keep my money, it's more important that I remain pragmatic enough in my investing to preserve my funds, so I can be around to trade another day...
