The Art of Money

I’m 23 years old and live in New York City. My goal is to have the ability to “retire” by the age of 30, and to ultimately one day have ownership of an NFL franchise.

I remember when I was in like 5th or 6th grade, and I was at the dinner table with my parents, and across the tv it mentioned how the Dow Jones and S&P 500 performed on that day. I had no idea what they meant so I asked my father. And I’ll never forget what he said. “Never do that, it’s gambling.”

Even though I’m young, I already have 10 years experience investing in the markets. My learning started with The Wall Street Journal Guide to Investing. It was a pretty simple book, but in 7th grade, its safe to say I didn’t know much about investing. After reading that, I began to track some stocks and see how they performed over time.

When I went to high school, I received a scholarship to go there, so I arranged a deal with my parents. They would give me some of the money they would’ve spent on my education and I would invest it. The first stocks I purchased were INTC, MSFT, LU, and XLNX. All throughout high school, I followed the financial markets. I was involved in the Internet bubble of the 1990’s, picking up shares in IPO’s and flipping them for same day gains of 50%+ all during computer class.

When I went to college, again I worked a deal with my parents in which they would give me a part of the scholarship money that I saved them. Which leads me to where I am today. Graduated from Bentley College in May of 2004, one and a half years out of college, my investments have paid off. I am managing a significant amount more than I originally started with back 10 years ago, and have learned a lot during that time.

Many people my age can say they lived through the Internet bubble, but not many can say the lived the Internet bubble. That’s single handedly the most important lesson I’ve learned so far. Psychology of the masses.

My philosophy to life is to make as much money working as little as possible. Use other people’s time and my money to work for me instead. I’ve learned that not many people have this same philosophy. That’s what I’m starting this website for. To help people make smart investment decisions, and to chronicle my journey along the way.
