Book Review: The Undercover Economist
I just finished reading The Undercover Economist, by Tim Harford, writer for the Financial Times. I stumbled upon this book because I was in Barnes & Noble when the author happened to have a book signing at that location. Intrigued, I sat in on his fifteen minute speech with no intention of buying, but after listening to him talk, and finding him rather entertaining I decided to purchase a signed copy of the book.
I thought the book was pretty good actually. Definitely great at discussing economic terms and theories to people who never studied business. The anecdotes were entertaining, and he did a really good job at showing where economics has an impact, where you would've never thought. Like traffic in London.
The best part of the book though was the way he brought everything together at the end. He introduced glabalization and the way he explained it was pretty amazing. He built upon all the concepts he elaborated on in earlier chapters, and tied it all together to show the benefits of globalization, and specifically how China has benefited.
I did like the book, it was a very easy read, and definitely helps you to see the economic forces at play in everyday transactions. It also provides some rather interesting examples that you will find quite entertaining.
- Thoughts On True Religion
- Gone Last Week
- Ppi Doubles Expectation
- Will The Housing Recession Affect The Economy?
- New Positions
