Redfin Invades Boston Market … Tomorrow?
Huh?
Apparently, Redfin is launching in Boston, tomorrow.
Except for an interview running on NECN, last night, I don't think they've had any sort of public relations push, so far (well, except for in my blog!).
What is Redfin?
Redfin is the industry's first online real estate brokerage. Unlike any other real estate site, Redfin lets you buy and sell MLS-listed homes online. You can shop for homes and browse prices using our map-driven home-shopping site, tour the homes you like in person, then make an offer or list a property via Redfin Direct, Redfin's step-by-step guide to buying or selling your home.
Once you've clicked through Redfin Direct, a Redfin agent reviews your submission and handles all the negotiations and paperwork, giving you a discount of two-thirds on a standard buyer's agent commission. To learn more, attend a 15-minute Redfin Web seminar, or dive into Redfin Direct for Buyers, our online home-buying service.
If you are looking for help selling your home, Redfin also offers Redfin Direct for Sellers, a program that allows you to list your house on the multiple listing service in your area, get a professional yard sign and lockbox, and receive full support with negotiation and closing for just $2,000.
What do I think?
Redfin is a direct competitor to my business model. My clients tend to be computer / tech savvy, white-collar, intelligent (mostly), and middle-to-upper-middle-class buyers.
So are Redfin's clients.
What do I think?
I have nothing to fear. I am a one-person office. My attention to detail and the needs / wants of my clients cannot be matched.
I have studied the Redfin model and met with its principals (hi Glenn!). I think there is definitely room for them in the real estate industry. I have some reservations about the way they've set up their company, but they can work that all out, over the coming months and years.
I wish them a lot of luck.
Welcome to Boston!
