Established in the mid-1970s as a cooperative laboratory of experienced scientists, New England Biolabs is a world leader in the production and supply of reagents for the life science industry. NEB now offers the largest selection of recombinant and native enzymes for genomic research and continues to expand its product offerings into areas related to proteomics and drug discovery.
At 30 years old, NEB can be considered one of the first companies to help shape today’s biotechnology industry. Housed in a new state-of-the-art facility, NEB’s USA headquarters includes a modern fermentation center and fully equipped laboratories for production, quality control, product development and basic research. As one of the first companies to produce restriction enzymes on a commercial scale, NEB continues to specialize in restriction enzymes and consistently maintains a position at the forefront of this field. At New England Biolabs, science has always been a priority and through this approach, NEB’s reagents have gained a world-wide reputation for setting the highest of standards for quality and value.
Recombinant Enzymes
At NEB, enzyme production is linked to basic research in the cloning and overexpression of restriction/modification enzyme systems. This enables us to introduce substantial cuts in reagent costs and unsurpassed improvements in product quality. At NEB, over 150 enzyme systems have been cloned, many completely and some partially. Presently, NEB supplies more than 230 restriction enzymes, over 150 of which are available in recombinant form, as well as numerous recombinant polymerases and modifying enzymes for a wide variety of applications.
Quality and Customer Service
NEB is dedicated to providing research products of the highest purity to the worldwide scientific community and supports this dedication with extensive quality control testing, a commitment to customer service and an intensive research and development program. When you contact NEB either directly or via one of our International offices you will notice our personalized approach to customer service. The same scientists (product managers) who purify and quality-control our enzymes respond to questions concerning specific restriction endonucleases, methylases, other DNA modifying enzymes and protein modifying enzymes. Our Organic Synthesis Division provides information about linkers, primers, adaptors, probes and custom oligonucleotide synthesis, and our research staff is available as a technical resource to our customers. These staff scientists have expertise in DNA sequencing, methylation, cloning, over-expression, fermentation, protein purification and protein analysis.
Basic Science
Basic research at NEB, in Molecular Biology and Parasitology, is supervised by our senior scientists. Well established in their respective fields, the scientists at NEB routinely publish their work in the leading journals, supervise post-doctoral fellows, offer a number of summer internships to undergraduate students and are regularly invited to lecture at local high schools. Collaborations are encouraged outside of NEB and a weekly academic seminar series enables scientists to visit our facility and interact with our staff.
Environmental Policy
One of the founding principles of NEB was to do everything possible to promote sound ecological practices. Products are prepared, analyzed and shipped to you under conditions compatible with both product stability and our environmental policy. Most prominent in our efforts is our shipping box recycling program, established in the USA over 20 years ago and now maintained in Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom. We also have a comprehensive in-house recycling program and regularly print our marketing literature on recycled paper. These small but important steps do not compromise the quality of our products; the benefit is clearly environmental.
Corporate Responsibility
In addition to our sound environmental policy, NEB seeks to improve the quality of life in our local community and around the world. Much of this effort is achieved through the New England Biolabs Foundation, a private foundation established in 1982, that supports environmental awareness, education, health and the arts, primarily in developing countries. Closer to home, projects in our local community are also supported through our corporate donations committee.
International Network of New England Biolabs
The International distribution of NEB's products is achieved through a worldwide network of distributors, affiliates and NEB owned subsidiaries, all committed to providing quality, value and service.
